Do We Need a Hero?

The United States has been at war for over ten years. Between one-fifth and one-quarter of children in the United States are growing up in poverty. Rampant protests against the economy, capitalism, and other social issues have plagued our nation in the recent months. College keeps costing students more, and public schools keep getting less funding. This is just a small glimpse of some of the current societal issues in our country.

This week, we have begun to explore the idea of the hero, including what makes a hero a hero, what the hero's role is, and if heroes are necessary. Does our society need a hero? If so, which qualities does this hero need? Is it even possible for a hero to "combat" these "forces of evil?" Explain. Be specific and detailed in your response.
